South Carolina to Create Green Jobs

“Clean energy is not something we talk about in South Carolina, but it’s something we’re doing,” U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham said in a video message to kick off Wednesday’s S.C. Renewable Energy Forum.

The state has invested 1.4 billion dollars in green and renewable energy jobs and since 2008 South Carolina has seen an increase of 3,000 jobs in the field. This focus is an attempt to bring new business to the state and grow the economy. “Energy would give us another tool in our toolbox,” said George Patrick, deputy secretary of the S.C. Department of Commerce.

The total number of renewable energy jobs in South Carolina ranges from 86,000 to 90,000. While those numbers include jobs like garbage haulers the numbers are still impressive for a small state like South Carolina. The state has involved major automotive manufacturing companies like BMW in its new green job movement.
