Cranberries
A native fruit in the Prairies, highbush cranberries grow well and produce abundant fruit crops. The fruit is used primarily for jam or jelly and has a distinctive taste. Freezing your berries before processing will alleviate the strong odour associated with cooking the berries.
They grow well in shady areas and their foliage takes on an attractive bright red colouring in the fall. Berries left on the plants in the autumn attract numerous birds to your yard during the winter months.
