Prairie Fruit Varieties



APPLE FLAVOURS


Taste is such a personal thing that I hate to say one apple spend an afternoon at our Apple Festival to know that people's tastes vary tremendously.

However, in response to many requests I have come up with the following list as a rough guideline to the flavours of our apples, applecrabs and crabapples. These flavours are fully ripe fruits. Sweetness increases with storage.

SWEET:

Apples - Battleford, Carroll, Donald, Garland, Harcourt, Norda, Norkent, Simonette 1847, Summer Red, Sweet 16, Tolton, Vick's Pick (M358), Zaychuk #1.

Applecrabs & Crabapples - Renown, Rosybrook,Trailman.

SEMI SWEET:

Apples - Brookland, Breaky, Carlos Queen, Collet, Goodland, Fall Red, Haralred, Haralson, Heyer #2, Honeycrisp, Lobo, MacSpur, McLean, Mystery, Norcue, Noret, Prairie Magic, Prairie Sun, Red Pippin, Redwell, September Ruby, Sunnybrook, Wealthy, Woodarz.

Applecrabs & Crabapples - Chestnut, Columbia, Dauphin, Rescue.

TART, ACIDIC:

Apples - Heyer #12, Norhey, Noran, Westland, 9-22 End.

Applecrabs & Crabapples - Arctic Red, Dolgo, Garnet, Kerr.
