Sour Cherries
(Key to abbreviations at bottom of page)
These delightful, productive trees are classed as sour cherries, although they are often advertised as sweet cherries. They are really somewhere in the middle. Europeans are quite familiar with the semi-sweet taste of these cherries. However you choose to describe them they are a really tasty addition to any orchard or garden.
These cherries are self-fruitful, requiring no cross pollination. Avoid planting them in areas with very rich fertile soils - they will grow with such vigor they will not harden off until late in the fall and winter damage will occur. They do best in drier conditions, disliking having their roots continuously wet.
