The cost is $40.00 per course or $70.00 for any two courses, plus GST.

Saturday, March 31st or
April 14
9 AM to 1 PM Pruning Your Fruit Trees
Learn the basics of pruning and then apply them to the special needs of fruit bearing plants. Course includes discussion and hands on training. We ask all participants that have tools to bring them to the class. Come prepared for the weather as some of the course is taught outdoors. Boots are required as there may be snow or mud.
2 PM to 5 PM Grafting
Grafting gives you the opportunity to add new varieties to existing trees or start new trees on seedling rootstocks. You will try both scion grafts and bud grafts before you leave. Learn the tricks that make you a successful grafter.

Saturday, April 7
Selection and Care of
Trees and Shrubs 9 AM to 12 PM
Amanda, a certified arborist and journeyman landscape gardener, will share her wealth of knowledge about trees and shrubs with you. A brief talk on how trees grow will be followed by a discussion of points to consider when selecting trees for the lansdscape. Once you have made your selections, what questions should you ask when purchasing your trees, and how should you plant and care for them? Amanda will cover it all.
Basic Fruit Growing 1 PM to 4 PM
Amanda will discuss the choice of planting locations and plant materials, planting and care and maintenance of your fruit plants. Course will cover tree fruits and bush fruits.

Wednesday, May 16
7 PM to 10 PM
Espalier
With yards getting smaller, interest in espalier is growing. Espalier is the growing of a tree within one plane. Against a wall, along a fence, on a wire or anywhere you have a space to fill, its a great way to tuck a fruit tree or ornamental into your landscape. We will talk about plant selection, growing conditions and the techniques of pruning and training.

Saturday, July 14th
9 AM to 12 PM
Bud Grafting
Bud grafting is the method of propagation used by most nursery growers to grow fruit trees. July through August is the time to do it. Come take this hands on workshop and head home to do your budding while its fresh in your mind. This course would be suitable for both the home gardener and someone who wants to grow a large number of trees.
